Our new patient appointments always begin with a comprehensive eye exam. If you are unsure of your family’s eye health history, it’s helpful to research beforehand, so we can better evaluate your own eye health. If you have never had a comprehensive exam, don’t worry! All the tests and exercises are simple and painless.
Our experienced optometrists can diagnose and treat eye diseases and identify general eye health problems including diabetes, anemia, high blood pressure, and others. We can also test for and fit specialty eyewear for sports, occupations, other activities and hobbies, and safety glasses.

COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS
Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. In our continuing efforts to bring the most advanced technology available to our patients, Look Minnetonka Eyecare + Optical Shoppe is proud to announce the inclusion of the iWellnessExam as an important part of our complete eye examination. Similar to an MRI or CT scan for the eye, the iWellnessExam uses spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) to produce cross sectional images of the retinal layers – which is sensitive area of the back of your eye – in a matter of seconds.
Traditional eye exams and retinal photography do not provide this level of detail. The iWellness imaging is typically not covered by your vision or medical insurance. The $29 charge will be added on the cost of your visit.
Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress without symptoms. In early stages, you may not even notice a change in your vision. But sight threatening conditions and diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and others can be detected with a thorough exam of the retina, including the iWellnessExam.
The iWellnessExam provides:
Detailed SD-OCT scan reports to show a healthy eye or detect early signs of disease.
Thickness maps of the retina and ganglion cell complex giving your doctor detailed information simply not available with other methods.
The opportunity for you to view and discuss your iWellnessExam scan reports with your doctor at the time of your exam.
A permanent record for your file, which allows Doctors Binfet and Kelly to compare your iWellnessExam scan reports each year to look for changes.
The iWellnessExam is fast, easy, and comfortable for patients of all age and provides your doctor with valuable information about the health of your most precious gift – your sight.
Our Advanced Technology
During your eye exam we will test utilize some of the latest in eye care technology to assist us in observing the health of your eye. Some of the instruments that we may use include:
Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT)
SD-OCT is like an MRI of the eye. It is used to obtain high resolution cross-sectional and three dimensional images of the retina, cornea and anterior chamber of the eye. This technology is very useful for the early detection and management of diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and many others. This is the same device that we utilize for our i.wellness testing, but in cases where it is being utilized to assist in managing existing disease the scans will typically be billed to insurance.
icam Digital Retinal Camera
High resolution camera used to digitally capture retinal images that provide enhanced diagnosis and management of retinal diseases.
Topcon KR 800 Auto Kerato-Refractometer
Utilizing rotary prism technology this device provides very fast and accurate refractive measurements that assist our doctors in providing the most accurate prescription possible for our patient's glasses and contacts.
Octopus 600 Pro Perimeter
This device uses state of the art technology to test a patient’s field of vision to monitor for glaucoma and other disease processes that can cause central or peripheral visual field loss. We do visual field screenings on all routine adult exams to rule out subtle changes to patient’s vision that they may not be aware of. Combined with the EyeSuite Progression Analysis software, the Octopus 600 Pro also provides the ability to monitor visual fields over time and detect significant changes that can be very useful in managing patients with glaucoma, macular degeneration or other visually threatening ocular disease.
Contact Lenses
Look Minnetonka strives to offer the latest technology in contact lenses. Dr. Kelly and Dr. Binfet custom fit every patient with contact lenses that will suit their individual needs and lifestyle. An annual comprehensive exam is critical in maintaining eye health for contact lens wearers and is typically required for prescription and fit.
